Yeah but also reading books, visiting an art gallery alone, self-retreat meditation… this is all true until it isn’t. Perhaps solitude vs. loneliness is a helpful distinction here.

I came here to state almost the same thing. Well said.

I struggle with absolutes, and this matrix tells me reading a book alone is bad. How about going to see a play/musical alone?

I understand the concept of the matrix presented. Just remember, there is a lot more gray vs black & white.

do you mind if I say "I love you" for writing this?

Last weekend I spent 50 continuous hours demonstrating 50 Climate facts in public. Your post describes well what made it special — being around other people and creating and sharing content in a way that felt risky and collaborative. Thanks for putting it into words.

Love the diagrams! How'd you come up with those?

i disagree a bit with Meaning is created, not discovered but at the same time i appreciate the idea that meaning can be forged through creative connection with others

Loveee this! By default I’m in quadrant 3 (creating alone) but I want to focus on having more fourth quadrant moments in my life.

This also explains why the advice of surrounding yourself in social settings on your own to ease loneliness can and does help (e.g. solo dates)! However, that doesn’t always scratch that itch we yearn for, which is connection and community

Cool reflection. What do you think would be the status of online games, for example, in this framework ?

Wow, yes. Calling in more of quadrant four!
